The Maxi yachts respond to the invitation of the organizing clubs and from day to day the registrations to the RCSW 2018 increase, both for the “long” from Naples to Capri and for the series of regattas in caprese waters scheduled from May 15th to 19th.
The “Notice to Competitors” n. 1 specifys that a maximum of 6 races are scheduled for Maxi Yacht Capri Trophy and Mylius Cup, of which 4 maximum windward-leeward races and 3 coastal races.
Price-giving is scheduled in the late afternoon of Saturday, May 19th.
The official definition of “maxi yachts” as standardized in the IMA Class Rules applies to a yacht over 60 feet long (18.29 meters). They are classified as “mini maxi” when the length is between 18.29 and 24.08 meters; as “maxi” when it is between 24.09 and 30.50 meters, as “supermaxi” if longer. Various differentiations within these macro groups are generally adopted to allow the most similar boats to race together.
Among the entries already received there are Caol Ila R by Alex Schaerer and Jethou by Sir Peter Ogden, as well as two other Maxi72s for their first time in Capri: Cannonball by the Italian Dario Ferrari and Lucky (ex Bella Mente), with a new owner but always flying the American flag. Just received also the registration of SuperNikka by Roberto Lacorte, the owner-helmsman finalist of the “Velista dell’Anno FIV” award, as well as creator of the 151 Miles Race.
At the end of the 2017 season, the Maxi Yacht Rolex Cup in Porto Cervo crowned Jethou champion among the mini maxi racers and SuperNikka at the top of the mini maxi racer-cruisers.
It looks like the same owners have made an appointment here in Capri to … reopen the games – and the healthy rivalry – with which they had left last fall!
